Although he found his book being shelved next to other black authors of the angry 60's like eldridge cleaver 's soul on ice and malcolm x 's the autobiography of malcolm x , beck's vision was considerably bleaker than most other black writers of the time. Be prepared to be constantly looking up old school pimp jargon unless you yourself are an elderly panderer. Hell, i don’t even discriminate when it comes to its taste. Pimp is a dark, ugly book.

The intention behind this book was not. I thought he was a true friend. Shortly before i started this book i met a man i respected.
He recounts his childhood and the choices he made that led him to become a pimp at the age of nineteen, after a stint in jail. It could taste like water, or just pure unadulterated vinegar. I gave it four stars because there were some typos and spacing errors in the text (not from his writing style, but obvious goofs in printing).
